Young partner would qualify for Jobseeker Support - health condition, injury or disability
If a young partner meets the qualifications for Jobseeker Support on the ground of a health condition, injury or disability, they can be exempt from meeting some or all of their activity obligations until their capacity for education, training and work-based learning improves.
The young partner must be limited in their capacity to undertake activities because of a health condition, injury or disability.
For more information see:
If the young partner is partially exempt they are able to:
- plan for education, training or work-based learning and
- undertake other activities such as budgeting
Evidence
To support their exemption, the young partner must provide a medical certificate completed and signed by a registered medical practitioner or nurse practitioner (or dentist, or midwife where relevant).
The information required on the medical certificate includes:
- a diagnosis (what the illness, disability or health condition is) and
- the impact of the condition on their ability to undertake activity obligations and
- the likely duration of the impact and
- their capacity for education, training and work-based learning and
- any other information that is required
Duration
This exemption is initially granted until the earlier of either:
- 13 weeks or
- the next reassessment date recorded by the registered medical practitioner or nurse practitioner (or dentist or midwife where relevant) on the medical certificate
This exemption should then be reviewed.
At the review MSD should consider the young partner's circumstances and whether it is appropriate to extend the exemption. MSD can ask the young partner to provide evidence that their exemption should be extended.
