Couple separate or one partner dies

If a grandparented non-qualified couple separate, or one partner dies, the grandparented non-qualified partner rate will end.

Couple separate

If the non-qualified partner needs financial assistance they can apply for a main benefit. The qualified partner will not be able to get the non-qualified partner rate again.

One partner dies

If the non-qualified partner is the surviving partner, they can apply for a main benefit if they need financial assistance. If the qualified partner is the surviving partner, they will not be able to get the non-qualified partner rate again.
