Single living alone rate
Single Veteran's Pension clients (or married or civil union clients who are considered single) and who meet the definition of living alone can get the single living alone rate. This higher rate recognises the extra costs for clients maintaining a household on their own.
If the client meets the criteria on their entitlement date, the living alone rate is paid from the date Veteran's Pension commences.
The single living alone rate is paid to clients who are:
- getting Veteran's Pension
- single (or married or civil union clients who are considered single) and
- living alone in their principal place of residence
The following clients cannot get the single living alone rate:
- clients who do not meet the definition of living alone
- clients living in an institution and
- clients paying private board
