Death of a joint tenant
Generally, on the death of a joint tenant, the surviving tenant will remain in the property and their Income Related Rent will be reassessed. The client has an obligation to advise of any change to their circumstances that will affect their eligibility for social housing or calculated rate of Income Related Rent. For more information on the impact on the Income Related Rent see:
- Income Related Rent reviews Death of a client
In some cases the death of a joint tenant may:
- lead the surviving tenant to consider that the property is no longer suitable for them
- indicate to the housing provider that the particular social house is no longer suitable for the surviving tenant
In these cases, either the client or the housing provider may request a review of the surviving tenant's housing needs (property requirements).
