Financially independent
To be considered financially independent a person would be aged 16 years or older and:
- in full-time employment (an average of 30 hours or more each week) or
- getting a Student Allowance or
- getting a main benefit in their own right
Full-time employment is paid employment for an average of 30 hours or more each week. This includes temporary or casual work during any week that a person works for 30 hours or more.
Generally a person getting a Student Loan only (including the living cost component) is not financially independent.
