Full-time member of the household

To have a bedroom allocated, a person must be a full-time member of the household.

This means that they stay in the house for overnight stays equal to or more than six days per fortnight. This can be an adult or the child or children of a parent sharing custody.

A child (or person) will meet the overnight stays of 6 days per fortnight or more if they stay in the house for the equivalent of 156 nights a year.

This can be made up of regular overnight stays or for various periods of time, if the total number of overnight stays is equal to or more than 156 nights a year.

For example:

  • child stays 2 nights every second weekend plus a minimum of an additional 104 overnight stays during the year
  • child stays for all the school holidays (12 weeks = 84 overnight stays per year) plus an additional 72 overnight stays during the year

Note a person or child who stays in the house for overnight stays less than 6 days per fortnight is a part-time member of the household. They are not allocated a bedroom.
