Agreed rent rate
Some social housing providers have tailored agreements. These can include a weekly agreed rent for their social housing property.
If a property has a weekly agreed rent rate, this is used to calculate the Income Related Rent Subsidy paid to the social housing provider.
The weekly agreed rent rate is the maximum amount per week the housing provider can receive for a specific property, which can be different to the market rent for the property.
The agreed rent does not affect the way the Income Related Rent is calculated and the amount of Income Related Rent paid by the tenant.
The rate of Income Related Rent will still be calculated based on a client's assessable income, their household type and the market rent for the property.
The maximum amount of Income Related Rent that the housing provider can charge for the property is the market rent rate.
Review of Agreed Rent
The review of the weekly agreed rent rate is written into the Agreement between the Ministry of Social Development and the housing provider.
