Shared housing and Income Related Rent

For the purposes of shared housing, a rate of Income Related Rent must be calculated based on the household type and the applicable people living within the bedroom.

For example, the household type for a single person living in a bedroom is a sole tenant household type.

Note that a tenancy agreement will be signed by each tenant with their housing provider for each person living in each bedroom of the shared housing property. Where the client has a partner, the tenancy agreement will be for the couple living in the bedroom.

Shared housing is where a client is living in a bedroom in a social housing provider property. Each bedroom will have its own bathroom, but the client may be required to share kitchen, lounge and other facilities with the other tenants.

A shared property can only have five or less tenants living at the property at any one time.

Tenants other than social housing clients can live in the property.
