Assistance for students at other times
Jobseeker Support Student Hardship can only be paid to clients between the end of 1 academic year of a programme of study and the start of the next year of the same programme.
Between two programmes of study
When a student has completed one programme of study and enrols or intends to enrol in a new programme, Jobseeker Support Student Hardship cannot be paid during the break between the end of one programme of study and the start of another. The student may qualify for a different benefit.
Example
Jonah finishes Year 13 of high school and enrols for a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree at Lincoln University.
Jonah is not between the academic years of a single programme of study and is not eligible for Jobseeker Support Student Hardship during the period between finishing high school and starting his university studies.
Completing Year 13 was one programme of study, and the degree is a separate programme of study. Jonah may be eligible for an Emergency Benefit or hardship assistance.
If Jonah is in hardship between the end of his first year of his programme of study and the start of the second year, he may be eligible for Jobseeker Support Student Hardship at that point.
Breaks during the academic year
When a student has a break during the academic year of 3 weeks or less e.g. a semester break, Student Allowance will continue automatically.
When a student has a break during the academic year that is more than 3 weeks, Student Allowance will stop.
