Redirection of benefit for young partners

Young partners can choose to have their benefit payment redirected and do not have to meet the 'good cause' criteria.

This applies to young partners:

• aged 16 and 17 years old without dependent children
• aged 16 to 18 years with a dependent child or children

The young partners benefit payment and any ongoing Extra help can be redirected to pay for their:

• accommodation and service costs, for example rent, board, power, phone and
• lawful debts or other liabilities, for example Child Support payments, Work and Income debts

Note Disability Allowance and Child Disability Allowance cannot be redirected and are paid directly to the young partner.

Young partners can opt out of redirection of their payment at any time.
