Suitable evidence to verify a Parental Support Gap
For MSD to be satisfied that a Parental Support Gap exists, a young person must declare their circumstances to MSD and provide suitable evidence. Suitable evidence means a:
- document from an official source or
- supporting statement
If suitable evidence is not provided or the evidence does not verify the young person's declaration, MSD cannot determine that a Parental Support Gap exists.
Pre-established Parental Support Gap
If a young person has a pre-established Parental Support Gap, they are not required to provide a document from an official source or a supporting statement. However, they may need to provide other evidence to verify their circumstances e.g. a letter from Oranga Tamariki.
