Clinical placements or block courses - Accommodation Benefit

Eligible students who move to a new location for clinical placements, work experience, or to attend a block course as a requirement of their course of study, can have their rate of Accommodation Benefit changed to the applicable standard rate of Accommodation Benefit for the new location, while they are living there.

Example

Lagi is an extramural student at UCOL studying Early Childhood Education.

Lagi lives in Waipukurau and gets the Waipukurau standard rate of Accommodation Benefit.

As part of her course, Lagi is required to do a teaching placement in Palmerston North for 8 weeks.

Lagi moves to Palmerston North temporarily for her placement, and her rate of Accommodation Benefit is changed to the Palmerston North Accommodation Benefit rate until she moves back to Waipukurau.
