Commission
Commission payments are personal income for Student Allowance purposes.
Personal income (whether weekly, fortnightly, monthly or other) must be assessed on a week by week basis. In cases where the amount of the commission is not known by the time the allowance is due to be paid, an amount should be estimated for that period, and then reassessed when the actual income is known.
In some cases you may be unable to determine a weekly amount of income altogether. In these cases you may calculate weekly income by taking the commission earned over a longer period and averaging this over the number of weeks.
Example
A student (or partner) is a real estate agent and receives a commission of $15,000 for their sales over a 9 week period.
This is then averaged against the Student Allowance over the 9 weeks it is earned.
