Overseas income
If parents receive income that was not subject to tax in New Zealand, this income must be converted to New Zealand currency before it can be used in the parental income test to determine eligibility for Student Allowances.
New Zealand currency
The Cook Islands, Niue, and the Tokelau Islands use New Zealand currency.
Islands that fall into these groups are:

Aitutaki, Atiu, Mangaia, Manihiki, Manuae, Ma'uke, Mitiaro, Nassau, Palmerston Island, Penrhyn Island, Pukapuka, Rakahanga, Rarotonga, Suwarrow, Takutea
Niue
Tokelau Islands
Atafu, Fakaofo, Nukunonu
