Parents living in separate households

When the student's parents are living in separate households (either in New Zealand or overseas) the parents' total combined income can be reduced by $3,400. This reduction takes into account the extra costs these parents have running two separate households.

The 'separate households' reduction is in addition to the reduction for parents supporting other students.

Living in separate households means living at different addresses for the majority of the week.

Note the $3,400 deduction can only be considered where a student has two parents that are being parentally income tested.
