The 92 week limit for secondary school study
A student usually has a lifetime maximum of 92 weeks entitlement to a Student Allowance for secondary school study.
Once a student has used up their 92 weeks, they will cease to be entitled to a Student Allowance.
Weeks that do not count towards the 92 week limit include:
- weeks paid for secondary school level study before 1 January 1999
- weeks paid for tertiary level study
- weeks paid in excess of the 92 week limit for secondary school level study before 1 January 2011
- weeks when the payments received have been refunded in accordance with the 'refund of payments after withdrawal' requirements
Extension to the 92 week limit
A student may get an extension to their 92 week limit if there are special circumstances.
Students, who have been approved to study less than full-time under the 'limited full-time' provisions, can get an extension beyond the 92 week limit provided there are special circumstances.
