Compulsory fees, payments and refunds
Payments
Compulsory fees are paidĀ from the students loan account to their tertiary education provider's nominated bank account.
Students authorise this on their loan application form.
Increase in fees
If fees increase due to a change of programme, students have the option of paying the increase or borrowing it.
If the student has authorised the direct transfer of their fees on their Student Loan application, this is sufficient to authorise the payment of additional tuition fees that are incurred.
The tertiary provider must send StudyLink a Verification of Study (VoS) detailing the additional fees.
When the Verification of Study (VoS) has been received a subsequent LEA will be issued to the student advising them of their new entitlement.
Refunds
Where a student qualifies for a full or partial fee refund due to a change of programme or a withdrawal, the tertiary education provider must pay back to StudyLink any amount that has been directly transferred from the student's loan account.
Different tertiary education providers have different policies about fee refunds. If a student thinks that a refund is due they should discuss this with their education provider.
In signing the contract, the student is authorising the repayment of fee refunds by direct credit from the tertiary education provider to StudyLink under the Student Loan Contract terms and conditions.
