New Zealand Superannuation or Veteran's Pension with a partner getting a main benefit
Any deductible overseas pension payments a client is getting will be deducted from their own New Zealand Superannuation or Veteran's Pension.
However, any excess of the client's overseas pension can affect the partner's main benefit.
Client on New Zealand Superannuation or Veteran's Pension is getting the overseas pension
When a client getting New Zealand Superannuation or Veteran's Pension has an overseas pension which exceeds their rate of New Zealand Superannuation or Veteran's Pension, their partner's main benefit will be reduced.
If either client gets ongoing financial assistance such as Accommodation Supplement, Temporary Additional Support or Special Benefit then any excess of their overseas pension will reduce these as well (excluding Winter Energy Payment).
Example
Maia gets New Zealand Superannuation as well as an overseas pension, and her partner Ben gets Supported Living Payment and Accommodation Supplement.
If Maia's overseas pension is more than her rate of New Zealand Superannuation, this excess will be deducted from Ben's rate of Supported Living Payment.
Any further excess over the rate of Supported Living Payment is deducted from his rate of Accommodation Supplement.
