New Zealand Superannuation or Veteran's Pension with a partner not getting a benefit
Any deductible overseas pension payments a client is getting will be deducted from their own New Zealand Superannuation or Veteran's Pension.
If either client gets ongoing financial assistance such as Accommodation Supplement, Temporary Additional Support or Special Benefit then any excess of their overseas pension will reduce these as well (excluding Winter Energy Payment).
Partner gets an overseas pension
If the client’s partner does not get a benefit but gets an overseas pension, this does not affect the client’s New Zealand Superannuation or Veteran's Pension payments.
Example
Jacob gets New Zealand Superannuation and his partner Ancelin does not get a benefit, but she does get an overseas pension. Jacob's New Zealand Superannuation is not affected by Ancelin's overseas pension, but his Accommodation Supplement will be reduced by the amount of Ancelin's overseas pension.
If the amount of his Accommodation Supplement is less than her amount of overseas pension, this will reduce to nil and he will no longer be eligible to get it.
