War Pensions
When a client is getting a war disablement or a war widows pension from overseas which is in the nature of a New Zealand War Pension it will be disregarded in assessing the rate of their New Zealand benefit or pension.
Other war pensions may be deductible depending on the reason for their payment and the paying organisation. You need to contact International Services in the first instance for advice once you have obtained the following information:
- type of pension and reason for payment details. Example recognition of service (where was service completed?), disablement or other reason for payment
- name and address of paying organisation
- rate and frequency of payment
If you are unsure of the type of pension the client is receiving and how it should be treated you can contact:
