Clients entitled to Australian pensions
A client must apply for any benefit or pension they may be entitled to from Australia if:
- they are in receipt of or applying for a New Zealand pension or benefit and
- they use the agreement to qualify for the New Zealand pension or benefit or
- they have lived in Australia at any time since the age of 20
International Services will decide whether a client needs to test their entitlement to an Australian pension and will contact the client direct if necessary.
Should the client contact you for help in completing or forwarding on the application it is important that you check the following details before forwarding it to International Services:
- all questions on the form have been answered
- all supporting documentation as listed in the Australian application form is attached (these should be sighted, photocopied, and authorised as true copies)
If the client refuses to apply for any Australian pension to which they may be entitled you should contact International Services.
Partners
Where the partner of a client says they have overseas residence that might give them entitlement to an overseas pension, you should also ask the partner to test their entitlement to an overseas pension. This is regardless of whether they are getting a New Zealand benefit or pension or not.
