Overpayments
When a New Zealand benefit or pension being paid in Australia is overpaid International Services will need to advise the client:
- the reason for the overpayment
- the amount of the overpayment
- their review and appeal rights and
- the relevant legislation under which the debt is established
The overpayment can be recovered by regular deduction from any New Zealand benefit or pension that the client is receiving.
If the client is no longer receiving a New Zealand benefit or pension they will need to make arrangements to repay the debt.
Note
- some overpayments may be able to be recovered from the client's Australian pension if a New Zealand benefit is no longer payable
- if a client applies for a review, or appeals a decision on the establishment of a debt or the rate of recovery, recovery action will be suspended until the outcome of that review or appeal is known
