Benefit entitlements in Canada after 15 July 2013
New applications for Widows Benefit or Domestic Purposes Benefit for widowers under the agreement with Canada with an entitlement date after 15 July 2013, are to be considered as applications for Sole Parent Support.
In order to qualify the applicant must:
- be ordinarily resident in New Zealand or in Canada on 15 July 2013
- have a spouse who has died and
- have a dependent child under the age of 14 years
Entitlement to Sole Parent Support will cease when the dependent child turns 14. Clients cannot transfer to Jobseeker Support once their child has turned 14 as Jobseeker Support is not included as a benefit payable under the Agreement with Canada.
New applications for Invalids Benefits under the Agreement with Canada with an entitlement date after 15 July 2013 are to be considered as applications for Supported Living Payment (health condition, injury, disability or totally blind). The only change to this benefit is the name change from Invalids Benefit to Supported Living Payment.
