Taxation

Clients in New Zealand

When a Canadian pension is being paid to a client in New Zealand, the pension will be taxed at a maximum of 15% in Canada before payment is made to the client.

As Canada has a tax exemption for clients who receive less than $10,000 per year in Canadian currency, the client should be encouraged to file a tax return to the Canadian tax authorities each year at:

Canada Customs and Revenue Agency
International Tax Services Office
2204 Walkley Road
Ottawa, ON K1A 1A8
CANADA

Or contact by:

phone: 001 905 613 - 952 3741 (collect calls are accepted)
fax: 001 905 613 - 941 2505

The client should also contact Inland Revenue New Zealand to discuss their New Zealand tax liability for the Canadian pension and any New Zealand benefit or pension.

Clients in Canada

New Zealand benefits paid in Canada are not taxed in New Zealand but may be taxed in Canada.

The client must make their own tax arrangements with the Canadian tax authority.
