Direct Payment Option
When a client is receiving an Irish benefit or pension they can choose to have the Irish benefit or pension paid directly to their own bank account.
Under this method of payment:
- clients can choose to have their Irish benefit or pension paid once every 4 or 13 weeks
- payment will be converted at the rate of exchange applicable on the day the bank credits their account
- the client receives the gross rate of the Irish benefit or pension and is responsible for any tax liability on it
- the amount deducted from the New Zealand benefit or pension will be based on an average exchange rate for the Irish benefit or pension
- if the client is receiving New Zealand Superannuation or Veterans Pension the rate will be automatically recalculated in SWIFTT each month using an average of the Ireland exchange rates for previous month
- if the client is receiving any other New Zealand benefit or pension International Services will manually review the rate periodically or when the client requests it
- there is no due/paid assessment at the end of each year to take into account the exact exchange rate that the Irish benefit or pension was paid to the client
- when the Irish benefit or pension is payable at two pounds or less per week the client will be paid once a year in December unless they choose to have it paid at 4 or 13 weekly intervals
