SWIFTT process to pay a partner
When YSSU decide to continue payment of the client's Young Parent Payment to the partner, they will need to determine the most appropriate SWIFTT process to enable payment to be made to the partner.
The process for payment will depend on whether the:
- period in prison is in the past
- client is due to be released from prison shortly
- client is likely to be in prison for more than four weeks and
- rate of payment for the partner
Note that there is discretion to pay the full married, civil union or de facto rate of benefit.
Period in prison has passed or release is imminent
Generally, use the SBDR screen in SWIFTT to:
- suspend the client's Young Parent Payment for the period in prison
and
- pay the appropriate rate to the partner (that is, sole parent rate or married rate)
Period in prison exceeds four weeks
When the client's Young Parent Payment is to continue, and be paid to the partner YSSU will need to contact Helpline for advice regarding the SWIFTT process to use.
