Temporary care

Generally a client will not be considered as the person principally responsible for the child when the period of care is temporary. Examples of temporary care are:

  • school holidays
  • Christmas or other public holidays
  • during the temporary incapacity of the primary caregiver or
  • principal caregiver is in prison

Extra assistance during temporary care

Any assistance for additional costs due to temporary care situations should be met, in the first instance, by the principal caregiver. Where this is not available, you can consider Special Needs Grants assistance for the client.
