Employment during stand-down

If a young person gains temporary full-time employment during the initial stand-down period, this may change the date the benefit can start from.

Temporary employment at a disqualifying rate

Where a young person has temporary employment during the initial stand-down period and their income is at a disqualifying rate, this may change the date the benefit can start from.

The new entitlement date is the date the temporary employment stops. Reassess the young person's initial stand-down using the income for the 26 and 52 weeks earned immediately before the new entitlement date.

For more information see:

Temporary employment at less than a disqualifying rate

Where a young person has temporary employment during the initial stand-down period, and their level of income (when charged against the benefit) allows for a part payment of benefit, there is no need to re-assess the young person's initial stand-down.

For more information see:

Legislation

When the level of income the client receives is high enough (when charged against the benefit) to reduce the benefit to a nil rate of payment.

Full-time employment is paid employment for 30 hours or more each week. This includes temporary or casual employment during any week that a person works for 30 hours or more.
