Initial stand-down procedure

Step 1 Find the young person's entitlement date.

Step 2 Calculate the young person's average weekly income for a 26 and 52 week period.

Step 3 Find out whether the young person has or had any dependent children in their care at any time during the 26 and 52 weeks prior to their entitlement to determine the correct "family circumstances" to use to determine the stand-down period.

Step 4 Using the information from Steps 2 and 3, determine the initial stand-down for the young person over a 26 and 52 week period by looking at the Initial stand-down period chart in Deskfile.

Step 5 Use the calculation of average weekly income that gives the young person a lesser stand-down period.

Step 6 Apply the initial stand-down from the young person's entitlement date to find the commencement date.

Remember if you enter the correct information into SWIFTT it will automatically calculate the initial stand-down and commencement date for you.

Note if the young person has had a dependent child (or children) in their care during the 26 and 52 weeks prior to their entitlement date you will need to use a work around. Contact Helpline for this information.
