When financial support is not expected

Parents are not be expected to financially support the young person if:

• the young person is, or has been married
• the young person, is in, or has been in, a civil union
• the young person is, or has been, living in a de facto relationship that is in the nature of marriage or civil union (as determined by Work and Income) or
• the young person has been discharged from the care of the Chief Executive of Oranga Tamariki, and is not dependent on a caregiver

In all other circumstances an Independent Assessment Provider report will assist you to consider whether financial support should be expected or not.
