Young person turns 18 years old

Generally, when a young person turns 18 years old the Youth Payment should stop. However there are two situations where the payment can continue to be paid after they turn 18 years old.

These are where a young person:

  • must receive Youth Payment for a minimum of six months and cannot receive another main benefit (excluding Supported Living Payment - health condition, injury or disability) until after this period
  • chooses to continue to receive Youth Payment if they remain in education, training or work-based learning
