Public transport (Community Connect)

Community Connect is a transport initiative led by the Ministry of Transport that allows Community Services Card holders to get a 50% discount on public transport fares.

The 50% discount applies to single adult smartcard fares during any time of the day or night. Public transport agencies may apply the discount to other fare types (e.g. monthly pass) or cash fares, at their discretion.

Clients using public transport can use their Community Services Card to confirm their entitlement to the Community Connect 50% discount.

In regions where travel smartcards are used, clients may get a free smartcard when they apply to a public transport provider for the 50% Community Connect discount for the first time.

Clients should contact their local public transport provider for more information about travel smartcards and Community Connect discounted fares.

Public transport agencies that are eligible to take part in the Community Connect initiative are those whose services are contracted under the Public Transport Operating Model and the Metropolitan Rail Operating Model, the Capital Connection Rail Service and Hokianga Ferry Service.
