Calculating the amount to pay
You will need to use the following information (which must be supplied by the employer):
- the number of hours lost during the week and
- the net earnings lost during the week
Example 1
Step 1
You must determine the maximum payment that is allowed based on the number of hours lost.
For example:
- if a client lost 13 hours of work, the maximum payment is $324.00 (as at 1 April 2026)
Step 2
You must compare the maximum payment allowable (calculated in Step 1) with the actual net earnings lost and pay whichever is the lesser amount.
For example:
- if the client's lost earnings were $330.00 for 13 hours work, you would pay $324.00 (as at 1 April 2026) as this is the lesser amount
Example 2
Step 1
You must determine the maximum payment that is allowed based on the number of hours lost.
For example:
- if a client lost 17 hours of work, the maximum payment allowed is $486.00 (as at 1 April 2026)
Step 2
You must compare the maximum payment allowable (calculated in Step 1) with the actual net earnings lost and pay whichever is the lesser amount.
For example:
- if the client's lost earnings were $393.55 for 17 hours work, you would only pay $393.55 as this is the lesser amount
