Organisation or company as agent
A client may ask that an organisation or company be appointed as their agent. This may be used, for example, to appoint a voluntary organisation, beneficiary advocacy group or rest home as a client's agent.
Any individual member of the organisation can act as the client's agent as long as they continue to work for and on behalf of that organisation.
Process
Ensure that the agency is in the name of the company or firm and not in the name or position of any employee in the organisation.
You may also accept any agency privacy waiver or similar document which describes what information can be shared and under what circumstances. For example, when a client appoints a beneficiary advocacy group to act on their behalf.
Whenever a representative from the organisation or company acting as the client's agent makes contact with Work and Income, Senior Services or Housing Assessment you must always request the representative provides a business card or letter on official letterhead that:
- confirms the representative's link to the organisation or company and
- ensure they exercise only the rights and responsibilities granted by the client (establish this by checking notes in the client's CMS record)
