Notice period

Work and Income can only take action if it has been 28 days (including Saturdays and Sundays) from when the warrant to arrest was issued. At this point, Integrity Intervention Centre (IIC) will need to send the client a letter advising them:

  • they have a warrant for their arrest
  • they have a period of 10 working days to dispute that they are the person to whom the warrant applies or to take steps to resolve the warrant
  • the specific actions that they need to take if they dispute they are the person to whom the warrant applies
  • the specific actions they need to take to resolve the warrant
  • the specific consequences for their benefit payment if they do not resolve the warrant within 10 working days

Note once the letter has been sent by IIC, the client is given four calendar days before the 10 working-day notice period allowing the client to receive the notice. This process is automated.
