Warrant to Arrest : Contents

Overview of steps to resolve a warrant

Step 1

Go to a court, or as a last resort, a police station

To resolve a warrant to arrest, the person must either:

  • go to a criminal counter at the court any day it is open and make a voluntary appearance or
  • present to a police station

Step 2

Court staff

Some arrest warrants can be cancelled straight away - for others the decision must be made by a judge. Once the arrest warrant is cancelled, the client will be given a new court date

Step 3

Provide evidence that arrest warrant is resolved

Most clients will not need to provide evidence that their warrant has been resolved - the information will be picked up in the data match with the Ministry of Justice

If the clients benefit is already suspended, the client will need to provide evidence that:

  • their warrant to arrest has been resolved or
  • their warrant to arrest is still in place but they are taking reasonable steps to resolve it but haven't done so yet due to reasons beyond their control
