Net equity in former family home - beneficiaries
When a client has separated, they may own, or jointly own the family home.
In this case do not assess the client's net equity in the home as an asset until:
- a decision on the sale of the home is made or
- there is a Relationship Property Settlement (previously a matrimonial property settlement) - under a Property Agreement or Property Order
whichever is earlier.
Note that rent received from the property by the beneficiary is charged as income against the main benefit only.
