Dental treatment

If a client cannot get a Special Needs Grant for essential dental treatment, and they meet all qualifications, they may be able to get an Advance Payment of Benefit.

The need for dental treatment must be immediate and essential.

A client may not be able to get a Special Needs Grant because the treatment they need is not covered e.g. a crown, or they have already used the maximum in a 52-week period.

If the client has been granted a Special Needs Grant for essential dental treatment, an Advance Payment of Benefit can be granted to 'top up' the payment if the client does not have exceptional circumstances to increase the maximum Special Needs Grant payable.

As a guideline, an Advance Payment of Benefit for dental treatment should not be more than $200.
