Four week extension

Children who attend a continuous entry school at age 5 will be paid up until the Monday following the child's birthday unless they have applied for the 4 week extension.

We can continue to pay a Childcare Subsidy for up to 4 weeks after the child turns 5 years old, unless they are attending a school with cohort entry.

If a child is going to a school with cohort entry, Childcare Subsidy is payable until the school term or mid-term start date immediately on or after their 5th birthday, whichever is closer.

Legislation

Cohort entry schools allow children to start school on the school term or mid-term start-date immediately on or after their 5th birthday whichever is closer.

This is effective from 1 January 2020.

Continuous entry schools allow children to start school when they are 5 years old.
