OSCAR Subsidy

OSCAR (Out of School Care and Recreational Subsidy) is a non-taxable payment that aims to assist low income caregivers to enter and remain in employment.

This includes a principal temporary caregiver of a child for whom Orphans Benefit or Unsupported Childs Benefit is paid.

It can also be used for families where the principal caregiver, or the child or children of the principal caregiver are experiencing, serious ill health or disability.

For more information see:

For a list of OSCAR providers see:

Legislation

For Orphans Benefit or Unsupported Childs Benefit, the principal temporary caregiver is the person who has the primary responsibility for the day-to-day care of the child for a short-term, unknown, or uncertain period, and is not the natural or adoptive parent of the child.
