Mandatory Review not required

There is no Mandatory Review for Disability Allowance for clients in the following circumstances:

  • the client is hospitalised for more than 13 weeks
  • the client is in residential disability care or rest home care
  • the client has died
  • living in or visiting a region affected by an emergency or adverse event and are unable to reasonably leave the area
  • the client is living in or visiting a region affected by an outbreak of a quarantinable disease and an epidemic notice has been given and is in force

or when:

  • there is a system outage that prevents MSD or the client from completing the review.

MSD will also stop the review for any clients who are in these circumstances after they have been notified about their Mandatory Review.

MSD will notify the client when they are not required to complete the review. The Mandatory Review date will be reset to 52 weeks from the client's original review date.

Note a notification will not be sent when the client has died.

Legislation

Residential disability care is the level of care provided for the care and attention of children, young people and adults whose needs cannot be met in their own home with home-based services, generally because of their disability/impairment related needs.

Legislation

Rest home care is the level of care provided for the care and attention of people whose needs cannot be met in their own home with home-based services, generally because of their age-related needs.

This may be rest home care, continuing care (commonly called hospital-level care), dementia care, or specialised hospital care (commonly called psychogeriatric care).
