Requiring supporting evidence
MSD may require a client to provide supporting evidence to determine whether they:
- have an immediate emergency housing need
- meet the income limit and cash asset limit
- meet the residence criteria
- can meet their immediate emergency housing need from their own or other resources
- have caused or contributed to their immediate emergency housing need
- have met their emergency housing responsibilities
- have a good and sufficient reason if they were unable to meet the emergency housing responsibilities
- meet the criteria for an Emergency Housing Grant under limited circumstances
Supporting evidence can only be requested from the client if MSD is not already satisfied the client has met any of the above criteria.
When MSD requires the client to provide supporting evidence, the information MSD asks for must be both necessary and reasonable for the client to provide and related to the purpose of the request.
Note if the client cannot provide supporting evidence, and they have given their consent, MSD can get this evidence from a third party. This information and how it impacts the client can be shared with the client.
