Resources available to the client
When deciding whether to grant an Accommodation Security Cover Grant, MSD may consider the ability of the client and their partner (if any) to meet the costs from their own resources.
If the client and their partner (if any) have resources available to them, these should generally be used to pay for any outstanding accommodation costs or expenses, unless this would mean they’re unable to meet their essential living expenses.
Examples of a client using the resources they have available to them may include:
- using any cash assets to pay the outstanding accommodation costs and expenses
- accessing assistance available from other government agencies
- paying the costs from their next income payment due to them
Note a bank overdraft facility is not considered a cash asset or resource available to a client.
