Travel for stranded persons
If a person meets all qualifications, a Recoverable Assistance Payment can be made for that person to return to their usual place of residence where they are:
- stranded away from their usual place of residence and
- unable to pay for travel due to circumstances which could not reasonably have been foreseen
If the person's dependent children are together with the client in the above circumstances, a Recoverable Assistance Payment of not more than $200 for each dependent can be made.
Payment
Except where exceptional circumstances exist, payment cannot exceed $200 for each person.
These payments are to cover the most economical mode of transport. If the person is using public transport and has a Community Services Card, they can get a 50% discount on public transport fares through Community Connect.
