Partner enters residential care
Residential Support Subsidy cannot be linked on a partner's SWIFTT record, except for clients receiving New Zealand Superannuation. When a partner included in a main benefit enters residential care, they are required to apply for a benefit in their own right.
The partner in care will need to complete a full application such as, Jobseeker Support on the ground of a health condition, injury or disability, Supported Living Payment on the ground of a health condition, injury, disability or total blindness or Emergency Benefit, and forward it to their local Work and Income office.
If all qualifying criteria are met, they will then be granted a main benefit in their own right at the half married or civil union rate. The client that is still living in the community should continue to receive their original benefit at the appropriate single rate or the sole parent rate if there are dependent children.
The Residential Subsidy Unit in Whangarei will ensure the partner in care and the client in the community receives the correct rate of benefit.
