Calculation of maximum amounts payable
Step 1 | ||
Has the client applied for the re-establishment grant within 1 year (or 2 years for English language courses) of them entering New Zealand? | Yes - go to step 2. No - client is not eligible to receive a payment for a re-establishment grant. | |
Step 2 | Maximum amounts | Examples |
Did the client get a re-establishment grant before 9 November 2020? | No - total maximum is $5000 and within that amount, the maximum for accommodation costs is $3500. Yes - go to step 3 to work out new maximum amount payable. | Client can be granted up to $3500 for accommodation costs. The balance of up to the maximum of $5000 can be used for other costs. |
Step 3 | ||
Client got a re-establishment grant for accommodation costs and other costs before 9 November 2020. | Total maximum payable is $5000 less the amount of any grants received before 9 November 2020. New maximum for accommodation costs of $3500 less the amount previously paid for accommodation costs = the new maximum amount available for accommodation costs. | Previous grants $1200 (other costs) + 800 (accommodation) = $2000. $5000 - 2000 = $3000 - the new maximum payable for all costs. Note the client must continue to pay back the $800 previously received for accommodation costs. $3500 - $800 = $2700 the new maximum for accommodation costs. |
Client got a re-establishment for accommodation cost only. | Total maximum payable is $5000 less the amount of any grants received before 9 November 2020. New maximum for accommodation costs is $3500 less the amount previously paid for accommodation costs = new maximum for accommodation cost. | Previous grant for accommodation costs of $750 (recoverable) Client has new maximum of: $5000 - $750 = $4250 for all costs. Note the client must continue to pay back the $750 previously received for accommodation. $3500 - $750 = $2750 maximum for accommodation costs. |
Client got a re-establishment grant for other costs only before 9 November 2020. | Total new maximum is $5000 less the amount of any grants received before 9 November 2020. New maximum for accommodation costs is $3500. | Previous grant of $750 for other costs (recoverable) Client has a maximum of: $5000 - $1500 = $3500 for all costs A maximum of $3500 for accommodation costs as the client did not previously receive a grant for accommodation costs Note the full amount can be used for accommodation costs, if needed |
