Maximum amounts payable

For applications received on or after 9 November 2020, a total maximum of $5000 is payable.

Within the total maximum of $5000, a maximum of $3500 can be paid for accommodation costs.

All payments are non-recoverable.

When the applicant has more than 2 children, the total maximum payable is increased by $100 for each additional child only.

Examples:

  • single client, the total maximum amount is $5000 ($3500 can be used for accommodation costs)
  • single client or couple with 2 children, the total maximum is $5000 ($3500 can be used for accommodation costs)
  • single client or couple with 3 children, total maximum amount payable is $5100 ($3500 can be used for accommodation costs)

Clients who got a re-establishment grant before 9 November 2020

For applications received before 9 November 2020, the maximum grant payable for:

  • accommodation costs was $800, this is a recoverable grant or
  • other costs was $1200, this is a non-recoverable grant

If a client got a re-establishment grant before 9 November 2020, and they are still within their 1 year (or 2 years for English language costs) since they came into New Zealand, the maximum amount they can get is reduced by the amount of the previous grant for accommodation or other costs.

For example, a client that got a re-establishment grant for accommodation costs before 9 November 2020, and is applying for further accommodation costs, because they are now moving into permanent accommodation, the maximum amount payable for the new accommodation need is $3500, less the amount of the earlier grant for accommodation costs.

Note a re-establishment grant paid before 9 November 2020 for accommodation costs is still recoverable.
