Verification

The basic verification required for the application of a Special Needs Grants is:

  • identification
  • income and cash asset details, if not receiving an income tested benefit
  • a quote for goods or services

Note a quote is not required when a client applies for assistance for food or petrol, or there is a preferred supplier arrangement in place.

If a client refuses to purchase from the preferred supplier they cannot get a Special Needs Grant for these items.

Verification of income and asset details

Applications for Special Needs Grants do not require verification to be provided for income or cash assets when the client is getting ongoing financial assistance, such as an income tested benefit, or second tier assistance.

However, if the client has declared income or assets that are different from what is currently recorded you must update the client's record in SWIFTT.

If an application is made by a person who is not receiving ongoing financial assistance they must provide verification for both income and cash assets.

Verification hardship obligations have been met

A client must provide verification that they have met any hardship obligations applied to them.
