Job search

In some circumstances, you may consider that an Emergency Benefit should include job search requirements. Where the equivalent benefit is subject to work obligations, generally you will include job search obligations as part of your conditions of grant. These conditions can be similar to the work obligations and may include part-time job search.

You cannot apply the work obligations or the sanctions as such. You can grant the Emergency Benefit and require the client to meet certain conditions that look similar to the work obligations. Where a person fails to meet this condition of grant, the Emergency Benefit may be stopped.

The conditions that may be applied to the Emergency Benefit are the client to:

  • be currently registered in CMS and
  • provide proof of job search when requested

Note if the job search is part-time, you may specify a certain number of hours the client must undertake.

From time to time, a client's circumstances may change and the conditions of grant of Emergency Benefit may need to be reviewed.

Note where a client fails to meet this condition, review their entitlement for other benefit assistance before considering another equivalent Emergency Benefit for a different reason.
