SWIFTT process - residential parole

When you include the partner in the clients benefit SWIFTT will automatically pay half of the benefit to the client and half to their partner.

To pay the client an amount less than 50%:

Step 1 Include the partner in the client's benefit.

Step 2 Set the partner up as a payee on the client's benefit and pay them the difference between the sole parent rate and the married, civil union or de facto rate of the benefit.

Example

A client has been released onto a residential parole programme. His partner was getting Jobseeker Support paid at the sole parent rate. The client is granted an Emergency Benefit and his partner is included.

The partner cannot suffer a reduction in income therefore she must continue to be paid at the sole parent rate with the client in the rehabilitation programme paid the difference between the sole parent rate and the married, civil union or de facto rate.

Based on the benefit rates as at 1 April 2026 this is calculated as follows:

Jobseeker Support - married, civil union or de facto (with children) rate that SWIFTT will pay

$669.40 ($334.70 each)

Less rate payable to the partner (sole parent rate)

$521.52

equals rate that can be paid to the client

$147.88

Because SWIFTT automatically pays the client $334.70, you need to add the partner as a payee on the client's record to apportion $186.82 ($334.70 - $147.88) to the partner.

This ensures the partner will get the correct sole parent rate of $521.52 ($334.70 + payee $186.82).
